I am building a 302 and using an edelbrock timing gear but the timing cover will not go all the way on because of a rib cast into it.Does anyone know can I cut this rib out or do I need to get a different cover.

Can't say that I know the answer, but I think you'd be better served to post your question in a different forum. There's a pull-down menu at the bottom of the page. Put your question in the appropriate forum, and I think you'll get the answer you're after!

I hope you can cut it out, because that's what I did on my 351W with a timing gear. Only time will tell since I just rebuilt the motor, but I have been breaking it in on an engine stand I built and so far it sounds good. I also had a long time mechanic there when I did it and he did not think it would be a problem.
