i am looking for a little info on how to properly weld the replacement frame rails. I'm a little nervous due to their importance and don't want to make an irreversible mistake. Does anybodyt know of a good how-to link like the one offered by sigtauenus for his cowl vents. That was huge help. any other advise would be great.

I think it's important how the car is jacked up. If you've got it on jackstands, make sure the suspension isn't hanging. Support the car by the suspension. I may be wrong on this, so wait until others with more knowledge chime in.

When I did it I happened to have everything off the car before hand which made access easier. I assume you'll have the drivetrain out. Just pay attention to your measurements obviously. It's not rocket science but it is auto engineering. Here's a few pics of what I've done which has turned out quite well for having never done anything like this before. It's not as hokey as it looks with the 2 * 4 holding up the front end. I think the jacks had the day off that day.

just a little more info...THe drivetrain will be out and the suspension will be removed in favor of a Heidts Mustang II conversion after the frame rail replacement. I'm not tooo sure of the order I need to reinstall the new rails. Is it better to do one at a time with the original lower radiator support in place, or to pre-weld the two rails to the replacement lower support, mating all three as one to the car at once?

My thought would be to leave the original rad support for the rail install for alignment sake. That and keep the sway bar attached so thing are kept in perspective.
Just noticed your doing both rails, maybe do one with all the old stuff still on for alignment with the rad support then measure off that for the next one. I'm sure you've thought that through already but thats what runs through my mind when thinking about this.

When I do my convertible I'm thinking of building a frame jig first to keep everything located.

Cool pictures Randy, have you finished the car yet? I was wondering how it turned out.
