I have been cleaning up the engine compartment on my 65 Convetible with a
302. Painting up and trying to make it
look more stock. Getting rid of the
anodized blue valve covers, shady wiring and
chrome aircleaner. I would like to replace
my chrome export brace with a black one.
First question is,will a monte carlo bar
fit on with the convertible fender supports?
(The long metal braces coming from the firewall to the front of the fender). I am missing the factory braces under the export
brace that go from the firewall to shock towers. Anyone have these they would like to sell?
My next question is, I am switching from the Holley 650 with manual choke to a
Edlebrock with Electric choke. Where is a good place to get the power for the choke?
I know its not a big deal but curious to what others have done. If the Edlebrock works out fine I would be willing to sell/trade the 650 Holley if anyone needs it. Its in great shape with relatively low
milage on it.
Also, where have been people been happy with their purchase of wireharness? I live withing driving distance to Mustangs Unlimited. I use them for instant gratification plus its easier to hide the purchases from the wife. I have never purchased anything from NPD or Mustangs plus, but from what I hear they have much better customer service. Plus my parents order quite a bit from them for their extensive Camaro/Firebird collection. As always thanks for your help.

My choke gets power right from the atlernator. I'll have to check and see which lead its on but it has 12 volts in on and with the engine running.

I ran the wire straight back to the blower motor wire for the heater/defroster. I think it is the brown one that is energized when the car is on. Charlie

I ran my choke wire from the starter solonoid......into a hole that was in the shock tower, and back out another hole in the shock tower coming out under the brace......ran down the underside of the brace then tied to a hose across to the choke.......

If you have the 2-wire heater blower motor (one yellow, one brown) you can tap into the brown wire. It is fused power for the blower motor and carries 12 volts whenever the key is 'on'.

If you prefer to go to the alternator, use the white post marked "STA" for stator, it will have (+/-) 12 volts when the engine is spinning.

A trick I like to do to clean it up a bit is to use a wire about twice as long as I need, then wrap it snugly around a philips screwdriver shank. When you slip the wire off the shank it maintains a neat but flexible coil.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys. I know its a simple task hooking up the choke
wire, but I am always looking for ideas for a neater more professional looking outcome.
I hate when things looked "hacked". I recently looked inside another 65 convertible that was recently restored by the owner. He right away started makeing
excuses on the ignition switch. The dash paint was all scratched and gouged around
it. Said his "son" did it while replacing the switch. I wanted to ask if his son did the body work to. To say the panels were
wavy would be an understatement.

wanted to borrow this post a bit. i have an electric choke and it is currently not hooked up. To be clear I only need to hook it up to the brown heater wire and it will come on when the key is turned on? I can get a pic if it helps? Thanks for the space.

Richard.

I finally got around to hooking up the choke tonight. My heater is a two wire, but
neither is brown. I figure the next best source of power is from the alternator. I can't see what post is marked STA. I used a mirror and drop light, but will have to pull it to see. I was hoping that someone will be able to tell me what color wire goes to this post so I don't have to remove the alternator just to see. Any help to trace this out would be great.
