I want to clean up my rear end, and was wondering if brake cleaner will hurt the gasket around the hogs head??? Got some residue on there(I hope) and I want to clean it up to be sure. Also, changed my hood hinges and springs, and now the back of the hood sits too low. How can I get it back up level with the cowl besides using brute strength??? I've got more, but these will help a lot if you got the time. Thanks for the info.

Not sure what a hog's head is.

The slots in the hinges for the hood are wider than the screws are in diameter. Just open the hood, loosen the screws, and pull upward on the hood some and then tighten the screws again and see where you are at now.

Sorry, it's where the gears and housing bolt together.
Thanks for the hood info too, I kinda figured.
I got it better than it was, but it still needs some final adjustment on the driver side.

I don't think the brake cleaner will hurt it too bad, just don't spray it up the gasket. If there is a bunch of crud around the gasket it might already be bad? Darryl

Thanks Darryl. I just had the gears swapped, and I was checking on it today, and felt a residue on the housing and third member. I just want to clean off the remains from the swap, and to make sure it's not leaking too. It's real clean, I just don't want to cause it to leak from ignorance.

I wouldn't hesitate to hose it down with brake clean. Jason.

I am having the exact opposite problem with my wife's 66, the hood sits too high on the driver's side. Hey, wanna trade hinges? LOL, anyways, I am going to use a die grinder to widen the slot a little more. I put an aftermarket Shelby hood on it and that is when it set too high.

I use brake cleaner on just about everything. It's wonderful stuff and it hasn't hurt anything yet.

aussie, you may find this hard to believe, but you may want to try raising the rear part of the hinge up in the air more. The way the hinge pivots it will actually lower the hood down in the back. At least it did on my 68.
