Hey everyone,
Something I'm not that familiar with are carburators!
I have a 68 coupe w/ 289 2v autolite 2100 carb.
It is idling high after it gets hot and is hard to stop when braking. I think that the gas mixture is off because I have tried to adjust the idle and it almost dies with just the slightest adjustment of idle speed.

It idles high after its been driven and when I go to stop. Then, if i put it in parks, it idles so high that when i put it in gear, it really slams into gear which cant be good on the car.

Can anyone give me some help on adjusting this carb??
Thanks ahead of time!!

I would first look at the the choke linkage maybe hanging up and keeping the throttle linkage at high idle.

After checking to see that your fast idle linkage and slow idle linkage are not interfered with and also that your choke is openning all the way properly you can adjust your idle mixture with a vacuum gauge. Hook it up to a manifold vacuum source and adjust each (presuming 2 idle screws) idle screw 1/4 turn at a time and watch the affect on vacuum. Adjust each screw the same amount. You want the engine to produce as much vacuum as possible. Once you reach that adjustment you are done.

Afterwards try re-adjusting your idle speed and then set timing again. You may have to tweak your idle speed again after resetting timing.
