With driving my wife's 66 in the rain yesterday I took the opportunity to try to track where the water in her car comes from when it rains. I find water along the bottom edge of the steel dash.

While crawling underneath the dash with a flashlight I couldn't find any water coming in from the top of the dash (winshied area)or around the wiper arms. Is there a common "secret" location that water tends to sneak in at on these cars?

I also checked around the cowl duct areas and didn't find anything there either. The water along the bottom edge of the dash just seems to be "materializing" out of no where.

I had the same problem. I thought, until I started restoring my car, that maybe the windshield wasn't sealed. Then I found a screw hole without a trim clip in it. Turns out that wasn't the problem either. I had small holes in the high-hats under the cowl. The water trickles through the holes and weeps down and rests in the lower lip of the dash. It spilled out when I was turning. Had to replace the high-hats.

It wasn't fun at all, so I hope in your case that you don't have the same problem.

Sounds awfully interesting. Pardon my ignorance, but what part is the "high hat"? That is a new term on me.

Antenna wire? Wing window seals?

Mine was the windshield rubber at the top of the windshield. It was seeping in, traveling down the windshield post then down the side of the dash and on to the carpet. I don't drive my Mustang in the rain anymore, even after sealing the windshield.

There are two air inlets from the outside cowl area to the interior area under the dash. The left side is the fresh air inlet and the right side is the heater air inlet. They are metal bands about two inches high and six inches in diameter that often rust out at the base.

Some people also refer to them as top hats, and see zieber's answer above.

Thanks Zieber. Didn't back to this soon enough to respond. Here's a picture.

Ah, top hat, high hat, funny how things get named. On the assembly line we referred to end links for a swaybar as "chicken legs" as they looked just like them.

Yeah, I am pretty familiar with those, just didn't know what they went by.I have a feeling that is the problem but I am still having a hard time finding a water trail. I'm going to have to have the wife run water into the cowl with the hose and watch inside to see if I can see what's happening.

Thanks for the help!

What exlocal says was our porblem on our '66 coupe. Couldn't find the leak anywhere, including the ducts. On a fluke had my daughter hold the hose near the top of the windshield and sure enough---wasn't sealed properly at the top and was seeping in and down the "A" pillars. So that could be the problem with yours.
