I installed a curved monte carlo bar today. It went right in only had to hit it in place with a small rubber mallet. I've read so many stories about them being hard fit. Does anyone know how wide they should be? maybe this one isn't wide enough? Very easy install looks good, hope it helps too. BTW I couldn't believe how loose most of the fender and shock tower bolts were. It's a good idea to check them.

Generally the problem with MC bars not fitting is sag of the shock towers. You appently do not have this problem. I haven't heard of MC bars being too short or long. You should be good to go.

A friend of mine had trouble getting one to fit his 66 GT coupe. He came over and measured my original one and his was 1/4" longer. He called the local Mustang parts vendor where he bought it from. They measured the ones on there shelf and some were longer than others. Come to find out they buy them from differant suppliers. Before you get the port-a-power out and spread the shock towers make sure you have one the right lenght. I will measure mine and post latter.[This message has been edited by 63Kcode (edited 03-29-2006).]

I too am looking forward to a post with the measurement of an original Monte Carlo bar. I must have moved my shock towers 3/4" to get mine in and that was after a week of sitting on a jack stand on the cross brace. I am planning on a front end alignment as soon as it's back on the road but here's hoping I didn't screw something up putting in a non-standard Monte Carlo bar.

Don't know if it will help, but my straight bar is 39 and 3/4's at the welds. It drops in without a fuss.------------------ William The easiest way to find something lost, is to buy a replacement. 68 Coupe 289 C4 2:79 rear gears

I have a straight bar as well, but mine is still in the original shipping wrapper and hanging on the wall of the garage. One of many little projects that started with a lot of ambition.------------------ reliving youth

Can't be absolute about it being original since I didn't buy the car new. I was only 4 at the time. The car only had 28,000 miles on it when I got it 11 years ago. Mine is 39 3/4"s weld to weld just like 68 coop,s.
