will a Holley model 4160 600cfm vacuum secondary carbs work for me with a 302, offen 360 intake and a auto tranny, and future plans of headers and x pipe exhaust?I ask becasue I may purchase one from prostreeter. He said it was a retro fit. What does that mean? Also I asked about the type of choke and if i need to get any thing for the auto kick down. If anyone knows this info I would love to hear from you. Thanks. Richard. ------------------ rmousir '66 Mustang Ford Blue & white stripes 302 auto Mustang ~ 04-05

I'm not at all familiar with that model, but I would ask him if he modified the carb at all. The fella most likely knows what he is doing, but what's a great carb for a 11 second strip and trailer car might not be set right for the sunday cruiser. For the choke I like electric models. With Edelbrock, Summit and Jegs sell add on kits. They have to sell them for Holleys. Either call Jegs and ask which is the correct kit or make the guys behind the counter at your local parts store earn their keep. Your tranny kick down...on my 3 speed C-4 there is a three foot longish line running from the modulator on the back of the tranny to a "T" fitting on the back of the intake. I don't know if this is factory, but my car shifts fine when warmed up. I can take my carb off w/o touching this line so hopefully you won't have to.

That's the vacuum line that controls the shifting, not the downshift or passing gear. The trans will work just fine with that line alone, but it will not have the 'kickdown to pass' feature when you mash the accelerator. For that, there should be a long rod going from a lever on the carb throttle down to the transmission shift lever. It's spring loaded so it normally stays in the forward position. Move the throttle far enough and you overcome the spring tension to move the lever down and kick it into passing gear, which is the same as manually shifting it from third down into second for a few moments.

capri man I have a deal done for a new carb for about the same price + shiping. I think that is pretty good. I just needed to know if I can use my auto kick down with this carb and what I have to do for the choke.
I don't know much about carbs and to be honest they scare me a bit. LOL. Richard.
