I just bought a '67 Mustang GT Convertible. It is an A code which is the middle 289 4V. I have always seen and heard that all 4V GT cars had the cut out rear valance and quad chrome exhaust tips, however, this car does not have that - it has a standard rear valance with no cut outs? I am pretty sure the car is a factory GT as the original buck tag includes "PIO" which decodes as Performance Image Option/GT Equip. The car appears to have all the other GT stuff on it. Curious if anyone knew what up with this valance - did some GT's not have the quad valance? Does the car being an export ("X" on buck tag) have anything to do with it? Really got me puzzled?

Sounds like a great car to get!!!! From what have read, and lately at that, not all GT's came with dual exhaust. The rare K's did and so did 390's. The Illustrated Facts Book says that the dual exhausts were part of the GT equip group, and reads..."plus dual exhaust system with bright "quad" extensions on 390 and 289 High Performance V-8". A and the controversial C code GT's had single.

Does the car have a single or duel exhaust?

Thanks for the responses. Mellow Yellow is right on and a response from Marti Auto Works confirmed to me that only the K code and S code engines got the dual exhaust, cut out valance and chrome quad tips in the GT Equip. option for '67.

You can get a report from Kevin Marti that will tell you if your car was a real GT or not. Even if it is, over the years the valance could have been replaced. They tend to get banged up.
