I have a 66' Mustang Coupe. I just dropped in a 302 and had some headers my brother gave me. Well they must not be for that car because they will not fit no matter what I do. So I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction of some good long tube headers. Something that I won't have to take the motor halfway back out to install. And hopefully something I won't break the bank with. I really want to get this thing back on the road and this is the only thing holding me back. Any help would be great.

Surely someone here must have a rec. for a set of headers? If you are looking for cheap and usable have you looked at the no-name headers Summit sells? ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '05 Mercury Sable LS 3.0L DOHC 24V Duratech V6

Not sure on the 302 but on my 65 with a 351w. There isn't any way for me to get my headers on and off without jacking up the motor alittle. It doesn't need to come half out just an inch or three. It's not hard to jack the motor up alittle for the install. Undo both motor mounts place a wide 2x4 under the oil pan.Out the in the middle of the 2x4 slowly jack the motor up. Slip both headers in place. Start all the bolts then lower the motor.------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs HOOD HACKERS DELIGHT! My Pics

Alex,Will the 88300's fit a 302, because the Summit description mentions 351W. I just ask because I'm looking for a decent set of headers for the 289 in my 65. My problem is I want a ceramic coated set, but for the price of a cheapy header that is coated I can almost get the Hooker 6111's painted. I was wondering how much it costs to get a set JET HOT coated myself and if that is a good idea. The price difference is $220 between the coated and non coated header. Nick

I had 3 sets of headers on the 66 I just put together.I bought a set of ceramic coated flowtechs and put them on.The spark plug socket clearance was extremely tight to the flange.I actually could not get the socket on the #8 cylinder's plug without doing a little grinding on the end of the flange.Once I had them installed I wasn't happy with the ground clearance on this particular car,(although it would have been ok if you were careful and stayed on good roads). The quality seemed good and they were very heavy so I assume they were made from good heavy steel..They were a little difficult to install, had to lift the passenger side of the engine off the mount and the drivers side made it very difficult to get the clutch linkage bolted on....I borrowed an older set of headmans and they fit perfectly..No issues at all..Unfortunately I don't know what the part# is or if they even still make this style....I finally ended up using a set of Tri-Y headers like you can get from any mustang reproduction parts place. They bolted on the engine very easily and you will actually have more room around the engine than with regular exhaust manifolds. The ground clearance was awesome but I did have a bit of an issue with the clutch linkage hitting one of the pipes...If you have an automatic there shouldn't be any issues at all....------------------ 68 J-Code,Sprint,306 4 speed,4.11s 13.69@101............... 66 coupe 289 4 speed, 3.20 cruiser http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy.html http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy2.html

I've got the flowtechs on my 65 w/ 302. I didn't have an issue with spark plug clearance but I do have a serious issue with ground clearance. I have six cylinder springs though... for 100 bucks though I don't think I could have gone wrong.

Go to the Hedman web site. They fit the 302 fine. Summit is incorrect. If you don't drive in the snow the Hedman headers will last several years. You can't beat them for under $130. They come with the hardware including the reducers and gaskets. Hooker is a better header, but you were looking for cheap price. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." I don`t have a 65-66 Mustang with a small block, so I can`t vouch for what fits, or how well, but I can say that I do like Heddmans. I have had the same set of cheap Heddmans on my 1974 F350 truck (390FE) for almost 15 years now. They fit fine, and although they look like crap, all covered in rust, they have never blown a gasket, and despite all the rust, still seem pretty solid, with no leaks. As for the ceramic coating, personally, I perfer to have that done only after I have done at least a trial fit, or better yet, ran them in the vehicle for a while. The last thing you want to do is to take a hammer, grinder, or hacksaw to your beautiful, shiny new headers. Better to take a bit of extra time, especially if the cars parked for ther winter anyhow, and ensure that everything fits nicely first. Then have them coated.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed [email protected] 1.32 60 foot 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed.
