How can I get Auto Zone to fit me with a 100 amp, as in, what year will bolt up to my 289's brackets??? Since my orig is probably a 65 amp, it don't seem to work under 1000rpm, so should I get a smaller pulley to compensate for that??? Thanks for any time and info on this.

Alternators put out very little at idle no matter how high of amps it is rated at.

Thanks, I am debating buying a new one, but I want to make sure it's gonna work, and not be a waste of money I can use somewhere else.

Hope you don't mind, but sent you an email with a picture of a one wire Chevy alternator that fits with a little modification. I got the picture from another Ford site. I don't remember the amperage rating, but it is a lot higher than the old Ford alternators.

Why not go with a new Powermaster unit. About $130 shipped (from summit), like i said brand new and puts out 100amps if needed, bolt right up to your old brackets and everything. Im very happy with mine... David F.

Guess that's the only logical thing to do, I have their starter's, and it's been trouble free. Thanks David, and everyone else too, for your time and info.
