now this trans as far as i know is not a toploader. it came from an 80's mustang cobra. with a 2.3L Turbo. the shift linkage is internal like a T-5 the top cover plate numbers are RF-D8ZR-1222-AA. just want to see if it has the same bolt pattern as a 3.03 trans

thats the way it sounds. or a t4. apparently a t4 has a square shifter mount. i believe this is round. the input shaft of an srod is 5/8 longer then a 3.03 from what i can find. so it needs a plate.

Is the trans all aluminum? I don`t know if the Turbo 2.3 used a different trans or not, but many of the early FOX 2.3L non turbo`s came with a wimpy "Hummer" 4 speed, which used a cast iron main case, and a round shifter retaining plate. My Fairmont drag car was origionaly a 2.3 4 speed, and when it was still all stock, I was really wailing on it, blew the cluster gear thru the maincase, during a WOT clutch dump. ( I was preparing to remove the stock running gear that weekend anyhow!)

Maybe you should try the 79-93 guys. Then again Alex will have an answer if he sees this.
