My GT bar is far away, and the M&M search function is down so I can't find my very old thread on this
Someone is arguing with me furiously about this. Does anyone know the exact measurement of the 67/8 GT sway bar? I know it's not 7/8 and it's not 1 inch. From memory, I got it at 31/32. Anyone know?
Thanks,
Simon

I believe the standard GT bar is 7/8,competition/HD suspension was 15/16 and Shelbys were 1 inch...

Oh! Am I going to have to eat humble pie?
15/16 sounds likely for the bar I have on mine. It came from a GT, and I thought the one I took out to replace it with was 7/8.
So what was the standard, non-GT V8 sway bar? Wasn't that 7/8? I have one in the shop and will measure this p.m.

Standard is probably 3/4 or 13/16"

Indeed. I just measured a non-GT swaybar and it's 13/16.
I thought all GTs had competition suspension, but I guess I was wrong.
And there were four sizes of sway bar, including Shelbies. Wow!
Thanks all.

According to the fact Book, Simon, you are NOT wrong. GT's in 68 came with the H.D. suspension. They do not mention the diameter, though. It's less than an inch.

Strangely, disc brakes were an option on 68 GT's. Remember a big argument at a show re that. Some MCA judges were wrong. Imagine that!!

According to my Ford parts books (1964-71 the standard bar in 68 was 3/4 and the GT was 7/8.13/16 is listed in 66 and 15/16 in 69....but I have seen 5/8 bars and 11/16 bars as well on non GTs.I have a good collection of build sheets,I will dig them out and see what they show..

Also...I have an original 68 dealer sales brochure.Disc brakes were indeed an option on 68 GTs unless its a GT390.Strange but true..

I believe that they are a fraction less than the stock 68 GT sway bar. Put one on a 68 cv that am getting back in a week. Will measure it but it's no inch!

Since sway bars are the topic, what is the size for a '67 non GT sway bar (convertable),I'm planning on replacing mine! 289, manual brakes (stock), seeking clarity.

Did some cross checking in my parts book..

Improved handling.......7/8
maximum handling........15/16

They list a 3/4 as the stock bar for a 67 non GT
