I called a local yard to get a donor 5.0 block and 5 spd to put in my 68. Intention is to use the short block with my cam, heads, intake and carb, then the 93's flywheel, bell, and trans.Guy wants $300 for a 5.0 HO out of a lincoln, $125 more and it comes with the AOD $350 for a T-5 $150 for a bell and flywheel for the T-5 So, I could have what I want for $800, or a 5.0 w/AOD for $425. He said the same thing I've seen 3-4 times now, the new fuel injected engines are very clean inside even with 100,000 miles on them. I would take the engine apart down to the short block, put a cam in, my heads, intake, and carb, and run with it as-is. If its a 92-93 T-5 with reasonable miles, I'd probably just run with that too, but wouldn't hurt to have a transmission guy at least open it up and take a look around before I put it in. Do those prices sound like good ballpark numbers for used parts. I'm pretty sure the $300 for the 5.0 includes the EFI, but will check. Regardless, if it does, would anybody be interested in the EFI set-up? I don't want to go that route and if nobody wants it, will probably just leave it at the yard and not even bother bringing it home.

"So, I could have what I want for $800, or a 5.0 w/AOD for $425"I'd try to work him alittle on the price for 5.0 and T-5 set up. Even of comes off $50 it all helps. If not get what you want. Why worry about saving $375 now? If not you'll kick yourself for it latter. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs HOOD HACKERS DELIGHT! My Pics

I got my '95 5.0 out of a gt mustang and it came with all of the dressings other than the alt and the pwst. Tax included it was $291.xx.so the price seems pretty close. I can not see the t-5 going for so much over the AOD. I would also work that down if possible or look for another one for less. Do you think the t-5 will need to be rebuild/gone over? If so I think that is to much. Richard.

Richard, I think you're right.I've always been of the opinion that money talks at a junk yard. I have no doubt I can get the engine, trans, bell and flywheel for an even $600 if I walk in with 6 Ben Franklin's and offer them up. Of course, to do that you have to be willing to turn around and walk if he says no...

BTW, anybody know how to tell the World Class T-5 from a regular one? I'm not even sure if World Class is the right term, but I seem to recall something about certain production T-5's being better than others.

I don't know about the transmission question but I wanted to comment on the walk away that you mentioned. I live just outside Cincinnati and I can say that there is a salvage yard around every corner out here. I would imagine that you would have the same thing. I am sure you can find a tranny for a song if you shop around. All I did was use the yellow pages and call around. Stay at it. You can find one.Richard. ------------------ rmousir '66 Mustang Ford Blue & white stripes 302 auto Mustang ~ 04-05

pretty much all T5's were World Class. Nothing special. T5Z was one of the tougher ones, still nothing compared to a low end Tremec. T5Z has been broken by more than a few naturally aspirated Mustangs.

So how do I tell the T5Z apart from the other ones? Is there a particular year or years for donor cars that are better than others. I was thinking something like a 90-93 GT.
