I will hazard a fairly confident guess that there is nothing commercially available that will fit. There are surely folks out there who will make one to order though, but that'll cost.
Have you given a thought to any cutting that might be required to make it fit and stay on? Next time I run into someone with a first-generation T-bird with a removable hard top, I'll be interested to see how it works.

Yea, we were at the route 66 show over in san bernindino, Ca, and a guy said that he new a company that made it. but it must of closed down or something cause the website link doesnt work. the on he told me about was that it could fully retract into the convertible compartment which is about a foot wide and about car widths length.

I thought Mustang Plus advertised a retractable hardtop (retracted into the trunk, like the Ronster (i think that is what its called)). Not exactly what youa re looking for but the closest thing I have seen actually marketed.. David F.

i was reading it, the ronster kit is a chassis strengthing kit, tonneau cover (back seat speedster cover) tonneau cover brace, windshield header filler panel, and the instructions. so that car was a true roadster (someone cut the roof off and he made it work) not a convertible car.

SOrry for the wrong info, i was going only on memory, anyways i dug out my Mustang Plus catalog and on page 58, it shows the kit i was talking about, though as you mentioned it (like the ronster) started out as a hardtop, it doesnt mention whether or not it could be retrofitted onto a conv. Maybe a call to M+ is in order ? 1-800-999-4298... David F.

Don't forget to bring along a HUGE checkbook. If I recall, the cost was in the $5000 - $6,000 range.

An M&M'er...Tony, the guy who used to do the Tues question. bought a 65 cv that had one. MMonthly, years ago, did a "roadtest" on one. It was heavy, not easy to handle, etc. I drove a 62 Vette on and off for almost 8 years. The only place to put the damn thing was in the house and it was a PITA! They were also a high theft item. The SL Mercedes coupes had removable tops and there was a pulley arrangement that could be bought to hoist them up to the garage ceiling. My ceiling doesn't lend itself to such a "rig". When I sold the 62, I didnot include the top. Sold the top later for 1500!! Today, believe they bring more!

Read Mustang Monthly this month for a story on the retactable hardtop. The company is starting back up again. BUT the kit only is for coupes, NOT convertibles.

You'd be better off finding someone with a coupe to trade cars with. If I had an extra one I'd be up to it!

Trade a convertable for a coupe? That won't be hard to find somebody willing to trade.
