I did a bit of research and found this:

MOTOR:

> Let's have a look at the casting number of "D8VE-6015-ASA" that you listed
> in your e-mail:
>
> "D8" tells us that this part was originally engineered for a 1978 vehicle
> "V" tells us that the vehicle was a Lincoln Town car, according to the
site
> http://www.c-edge.com/shotimes/sho2fordpartsdecode.html.
> "E" tells us that this is an engine casting.
> "6015" tells us that this is an engine block.
> "ASA" tells us that this is a very high revision of the original design;
1st
> revision = "A", 2nd revision = "B", 27th revision = "AB", etc.
>
>
> As for the date casting code of "7J29":
>
> "7" = 7th year
> "J" = 9th month, or September; "A" = January, "B" = February, etc., and
"I"
> isn't used because it could be too easily confused with the number "1".
> "29" = 29th day of the month
>
> That means that this engine block was cast on September 29th, 1977, which
> fits perfectly with a 1978 casting number.

The only problem I can think of is they deleted the hole in the block for the clutch linkage right around this year.Your engine may or may not have it.If your running an automatic its not an issue and there are brackets available to adapt the clutch linkage if you are running a stick.
