Well I got it today. My poor jeep was dragging pretty low all the way home. Stopped at Lowes to get some grade 8 bolts for the stand. Don't bother going to autozone or advanced auto. They guys there will look at you like a deer in headlights. Waste of time.

Took off the clutch and flywheel. Then bloted it to the motor stand with those four bolts. Can't believe that those four bolts hold that monster on the stand. I could not imagine what a big motor would do to my stand.

The motor beat on my jeep on the way home and on the way out but the tire trick worked well. My jeep can take it. Tougher than any truck. LOL.

Now the motor is on the stand. I will have pics tomorrow and if someone would let me know the secret to posting them I would gladly put them up.

The motor has everything but the air, alt, and power steering. There are hoses and more hoses. A bunch of wiring. Plus the dist, 8.5 ford wires, plugs, the intake, etc. So much I have no idea where to start.

So if anyone would be kind enough to throw in their .02 I would appreciate it.

My plan so far is this:

Take lots of pics.
slowly take off unwanted or needed parts and pack them away for a later time. Clean as I go and replace what is needed. When I get down to under neath all of the stuff that make up the motor (LOL) I will change seals and paint it to make it look like a star.

You will hear lots more from me. Hope you don't mind.

Richard.

Richard, if you aren't going to use the fuel injection, put that intake and the associated EFI accoutrements on ebay...will probably get you at least a couple bucks to buy other parts with.

Well??.I have to finish a Christmas project before I am allowed to start on the motor. Should be done next payday. Just need to pick up a couple of more cuts of wood. LOL. I will also wash and cover the car this weekend.

I have been doing some more research on the EFI swap but I think I will be saving that for a later project.

Here is my plan:

-I am going to slowly take the components that I don't need off the motor. Things like the smog pump, the big ugly brackets etc.
-The motor will get a good cleaning
-Then I am going to get a front oil pan like off of a 66 and a front oil pick up and new oil pan seals
-Then new rear main seal.
-when I put on the new oil pan I will do my best to inspect the bottom end for wear and problems. I will ask about what to look for later, but after speaking with several folks here I am confident that all will be well.
-I will swap the water pump for a new, possible alum, one. Just a replacement.
-I will get a new alt bracket for the motor.
-I will get a new alt for the motor
-Then get a shorter serp belt and put on.
-Then I will get a flex fan (this is temp until the motor is in the car and running strong. Then I will switch to a elect set up)
-I am going to keep a eye out for a set of underpullies for added hp while I am at this and add them before dropping in the motor
-The motor will get a nice rattle can paint job
-I have a set of alum valve covers that I will paint black and put them on the motor with new seals.
-I have a alum 360 intake that will get alum paint and clear coat then put on the motor.
-A new distributor will be added making sure that the #1 cylinder is TDC when I put it in the gear is set at the #1 plug.
-new spark plugs
-I will reuse my coil (40,000 pertronix) and the 8.5 ford wires that are on the motor.
-I have a friend that has some tri-y headers that he will blast and sell me for $50. They will go on in place of the stock headers
-Then I will need to find a good carb

-The car will get a external fuel pump and regulator (if money is available I will add a new tank with the internal pump). Hopefully I can get one that will be good for both a carb and efi set up. Most likely just a carb one though.
-I will pick up a new fly wheel for the c4 auto that I have. (anyone have a AOD that they want to donate to my project???)
-Pick up a new motor harness from NPD or Mustangs+ (best price will determine)

Then I will prepare the car for the swap. Pull out the old motor and put in the new. With the old motor out I will take a few days to clean, sand, and paint the engine bay. I will have questions on that but it will be a simple rattle can job. I was going to pull the fenders and align the doors at the same time but decided that if I did that I would not be staying on project. With the engine bay painted and looking pretty I will drop in the new motor. After that I will work with the lower heater hose. I don't think it is a problem to use the one I have now because I currently have a 302 but I would like to get a new one. That is the only heater hose I have not replaced. Hook up the hoses, the wire harness, the alt, add oil, coolant and try to start the car. Set the timing by ear (maybe I will have a timing gun by then).

With any luck the car will start right up after adding oil and coolant. *I will be asking lots of questions like how to get my current exhaust to fit the headers? Not sure how to do that. Also not sure I will be able to use my current starter. Also I will have questions about the fuel line set up. I would love to see some pics of current set ups to see how I need to do mine.

This is a big project for me and I am pretty nervous but excited about it at the same time. Now I just need some extra parts and some cash. Any one got some to spare???

Anything I missed? Anything anyone can add?

Richard.
