Help Just bought my wife a 68 Mustang with a 302w I think. I ordered a new Radiator for it and both inlet and outlet are on the RH side while the water pump inlet is on the LH side. Can I order a water pump with the inlet on the RH side? Anotherwards are the RH and LH water pumps inter-changeable on a V8? Thanks, Don Did I mentioned I'm new to Fords...

I dont know how much help i will be, but you can order a 66 water pump that has a pass side inlet. Now where it gets tricky (not sure) is pulley lenght of shaft and timing location for harmonic balancer might be covered by going to the other side. I am not sure if thats the one theat is best for you. Welcome to Mustangsandmore someone wiser will come along. good luck Bruce

Hi Donald, I had a similiar problem in an early Bronco. I finally made a custom hose to cross over to the inlet connection. Pulleys, dampeners, and water pumps can drive you crazy.

In 1970 the lower hose went from passenger side to driver's side. If you engine is original, the lower hose should be on the passenger side. If it's a 1970 or newer you can still use the earlier water pump but you will be covering up your timing marks. {they swapped sides in 1970 also}Welcome to M&M. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '05 Mercury Sable LS 3.0L DOHC 24V Duratech V6

Thanks for all you advice. I've decided to return the radiator and get one with the outlet on the same side as my water pump. NPD has a 8005-1HE that should do the trick. Its just like the 8005-1EE except the outlet is on the LH side like I need. They show a 8005-1HE for a 69 302 engine. I originally ordered it for a 68 302 engine which at the time I thought would fit. Live and learn. Thanks again Don

Can you read your timing marks?I would have bought whatever one was correct for the engine.------------------ 1968 mustang j-code sprint.13.69@101 306cu.in, stock ported heads,weiand exellerator,650 holley DP,hedman hedders,comp 292 Magnum cam,4-speed,8 inch 4.11 detroit locker...................................................................1966 mustang coupe project.289 4 speed,3.20 rear http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy.html

The timing marks are on the starboard side (RH) If I change to the RH side water pump it would probably block the timing marks.

What came originally on a small block 68, regardless of rad size, was inlet and outlet on pass side. Sounds like you may have a later engine. Switching to correct waterpump is what I'd do.
