This is a new thing on my 68 coupe - 289. When I have been driving for a while and the engine is hot, if I shut it off and then try to start it again within a few minutes - like after refueling, it acts up. It sounds like the battery is virtually dead, just a weak try at turning over. I try it again and after a couple of weak attempts it fires right up. The car starts like a dream when it's cold. Any thoughts on what this might be from or things I can check?Much appreciated. Gregg ------------------ 68 coupe, red on black. http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/kinger44.html

Sounds like the starter or starter cable is getting to hot. I'd start by making the cable to the starter is good and a large gauge. Also check the ground cable. Next step wrap or replace your starter with a mini starter.------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

The 351C motor in my '73 Mach 1 did the same thing. Would get a little warmed up and then trying to start it would sound like it was barely getting enough power to turn the motor over as well as having several pauses in the starter motor (like it would do one revolution of the motor then hesitate before doing the next one).Several "mechanics" told me it was the starter, but it always tested out perfect. Then some old guy told me to get a cable as big aorund as my thunb on botht he ground and starter side cables. Fixed the problem in no time. Scott

My '78 F-150 with a 429 did/does the same thing. New cables, solenoid, starter and battery haven't helped. Sometimes after two or three tries it cranks like nobody's business!Tracy

If none of those things work dont forget about the ignition switch or wires. Especially the ground wires. Bruce
