I'm putting together a set of DOOE 351W heads. I'm using Erson E915021 springs that came in the kit for the cam. I couldn't find any specs on installed height other than a fairly vauge reference (on the Erson web site)to 69' 351W that they should be at 1.78 both intake and exhaust. I only got one intake installed and it came to 1.91. The heads have 5000 miles on a valve job but no hardened valve seats. It seems like a lot of material to take off the valve seats. Am I missing something here? How close to the recommended install height should they be? Does 1.78" sound right? I figure if they are giving heights in 1/100's of and inch they are supposed to be pretty close. I have a bunch of shims from 2 sets of heads but thought I would ask. Thanks.

Sprcoop,

Sounds like you have the wrong springs for your application. The Erson catalog shows 3 different installed height springs on thier site for a 351W.
They show the following:
E915021 1.680"
E915310 1.700"
E915051 1.900"

It looks like your heads were set up for the 1.900" springs.

Ronnie, shows what I know. Didn't know there was such a thing.

So, that means that the heads must have been setup for 1.9 springs. That means that the spring seat boss has been ground down 1/4"? Or, the valve stems are 1/4" longer than stock? I had them machined for screw in adjustable studs so he had to grind the boss for the valve guides. He never asked about what springs I had.

I'm thinking shimming almost 1/4" is out of the question and I am in the market for the correct springs.

This is all I could find on the Erson (Mr. Gasket)site. Either I'm an idiot (entirely possible) or that site is not very easy to navigate.

Where did you find your info?

Thanks for the input. This project is going to happen one way or the other.
