Will these to items bolt together...I have a 86 AOD out of a murcury Grand Marquis and I have a chance to get a 390 that has been bored out to 428...will this tranny bolt up...I know the flex plate is way different...and I know the tranny will need to be rebuilt to take that kind of punishment...but is it possible? Thanks

Sorry ... not answering your question ... but are you sure the 390 has been bored out to a 428? It's not a change in crankshaft?

The bellhousing on your 86 AOD is not compatible with the 390/428 family of engines. There IS a company making a bellhousing to adapt a c4 to a 390/428, race-quality stuff, means it ain't gonna be inexpensive.

3.980" stroke nodular iron crank = 10 to 1 compression...What are my options in the original style trannies? Meanning What do origianl trannies cost for an aplication like this...Nothing crazy, just somthing able to withstand 490 hp. As long as it is automatic.

Lentech is supposed to make a setup for AOD-to-FE. Bet it ain't cheap though.http://www.lentechautomatics.com/ ------------------ "I only drink to steady my nerves. You'd be better off financially to swap to a manual and get a Tremec.86 AOD is a very weak starting point, take it from experience... Its to the point, I'm looking at my tranny as a core charge on a better tranny rather than building it. I'm still working the numbers to see which way will work out better. Bottom line, an original stock 74 302 with bolt ons doesn't do well with the stock freshly rebuilt 86 AOD. The engine is more than it can handle reliably.

A C6 with a Gear Vendors unit is nice... but costly.------------------ "I only drink to steady my nerves. Sometimes I'm so steady I don't move for months." - W.C.
