Don't know how many of you have ever tried using POR-15 products.. I have had great success with them,, but never used the METAL READY much..

It used to prep bare metal before applying POR-15 Coating.. They claim it will eat up rust,, stopping it in its tracks.. They also say you can take rust of old tools by just soaking them in the METAL READY..

Well I found my old Crimping Pliers out in the gravel drive way once the snow melted.. So I thought I'd put their Metal Ready to the test.. Here's what my Pliers looked like before I soaked them over night..

And here's what they looked like the next morning..

All I did was take them out of the jar,, scuff them (just a little) with a 3M Pad,, Spray a little oil on them and put new tape on the handle..

To top it off,, the stuff is water base,, so you just rinse it off with water.. AMAZING..

Who carries it? And how big a bucket is needed to soak a car? I got my grandfathers tools and he lived across the street from the beach and after sitting for 30 years they were in bad shape. Still cleaning them and I like the your recommendation.

Metal Ready does work excellent...

I found a cheaper alternative in Lowes. It's "concrete etcher", sold under various names. I bought a gallon for $12. Look closely at the label, you want the one with phosphoric acid.

Anyhting with phosphoric acid will react with the iron oxide in rust. The phosphoric acid will also leave a protective phosphate coating that helps to prevent further rusting....

There's another way to de-rust parts wtihout chemicals. It's electrolysis, and requires only a battery charger, water, washing soda, a piece of stainless and some way to hold your rusty parts.

Do a Google on "electrolysis".....

If I could find a car-sized one close by, I'd use it. My car could use a good dunkin.

You can find it here http://www.por15.com
This is the best stuff out there. The rust preventative paint is also the best. Bottom line they make alot of good products to save your rusting stang.

POR15 products are some of the best out there. I used them to prep and coat the chassis on of jeep. The por15 dries to a porcilin hard finish, is shiny, and will not chip.
Highly reccomended
