I had a starting problem a couple weeks back and traced it down to an intermittent coil connection. I thought it was the coil wire to the distributor not making a good connection. Wires were long overdue for replacement anyway. I swapped them out, and now this morning I'm having the same problem. I'm going to replace the coil now, which is probably the original coil, so it's due too. I'm looking at NPD's catalog at the Flame Throwers, and there are 6 to choose from. Other than chrome/black, I'm not sure what to choose. My '66 is headed down the "restomod" road (sorry Wythors!) so I'm not concerned about originality. I don't want the chrome (I'd never keep it clean enough). But there's oil filled, Super duty in the 40,000 volts. There's the same in 45,000 volts. Would I really see a difference in the 5,000 volts? Worth the extra $4? Not sure what Super Duty buys you, but that's another $6. I don't really mind the $, but I don't want to spend it if there's no real difference.------------------ '66 Coupe C code '93 GT 'vert (AOD to T5 swapped) '01 Saleen #648

I run the Ignitor and a Flamethrower, and they work without complaint so far. I think the higher priced ones are filled with something to protect from vibration. Are you running points now, or an aftermarket set-up???------------------ William 68 Coupe "Restomod in Progress"

I've had very good luck with MSD coils. Blaster 2 is $30 at www.summitracing.com

I have points at the moment, but I have the Ignitor II kit on the workbench. I'll swap them both at the same time.

I have ignitor, and flamethrower (oil filled not epoxy) I think epoxy is just to protect better against vibration but i doubt many street cars would need such a thing. Also what Im running is the Hi-Performance cap and rotor thats in the NPD catalog (same page)as well. It helps protect against cross firing when using the 40,000v. You might be able to get it cheaper through kragen. If you do want to get it ask for a distributor and rotor for an 84 Mustang with a 5.0. Should be three parts. Cap, Adapter and Rotor. Now that i think about it, i think the plug wires are different than stock. You need to make your own. Im running Accell 9mm wires. Good luck.... David F.

That set-up should work just fine for you GT, and if you have questions/problems, post it and we'll take care of it. Just remember, on the Ignitor, the magnet ring and the unit HAVE to be flush(even) on top, I know this from experience. ------------------ William 68 Coupe "Restomod in Progress"
