I've got a local guy who wants to sell me a 302 hydraulic cam to go in my new/used/rebuilt 351W. He says it will work EXCEPT the firing order is different.Drawbacks? Will it work? ------------------ SkinnyMan Tupelo, MS Thank you, Thank you very much!

BTW it's not a stock 302 Cam. It's aftermarket with a little more gumption.

Mike, I don't know the specs on it. Didn't want to blow him off if it might be a good deal. Just want to put in a "stick" that will take it up a notch. Going to go with an aftermarket intake and 600 CFM carb. Will be an automatic - probably AOD - with a "posi" with appropriate gearing. Just getting this puppy off the ground. I've hauled it around for 14 years waiting to get started. ------------------ SkinnyMan Tupelo, MS Thank you, Thank you very much!

Yes, you can easily use it just by swapping a couple of spark plug wires around. But, would you want to? Non-roller cams tend to take a set after being used. You can pull one and use it in something else if you pull the lifters too and keep them in the EXACT same order. Some folks claim luck using new lifters with a used cam but it's a crapshoot. If you want bottom dollar, PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) has selection of 302 AND 351W "SSI" brand cams for $50 each. I've had good luck with them. Not a bunch of grinds to choose from though.

GypsyR Thanks for that bit of information about the cam and lifters taking "a set." Think I'll pass on the deal. ------------------ SkinnyMan Tupelo, MS Thank you, Thank you very much!

Provided a cam is still within acceptable limits of wear, I've never heard of it being a "crapshoot" using new lifters. Do you really think it's that unadvisable? I've put new lifters with old cams many a time. Not a good idea?

You never use old lifters with a new cam, but the new lifters on a old cam is fine.------------------ Dustin C "The Mopar Guy!"
