I am experiencing a slight hesitation when i floor it from a dead stop. I had a similar problem before, and the guy who built my engine said it was a vacuum leak. I saw him tighten down the hose to fix the leak,we drove it, and it was fine. I checked the hose and it is still fine. I noticed if I set the idle higher, the hestiation is not as bad. I am idling now at around 900 rpms, parked. Any guide lines around idle rmps?

Set idle back to where it was.
Try going up on the nozzle/squirter about two sizes.

Ron, please believe that I am not questioning your evaluation since I am like Schultz on Hogans Heros, "I know nothing". I just want to understand the logic. If it had the problem, then a vacuum leak fix fixed it, then it came back, how does that lead you to believe that a larger squirter will fix it? It ran fine with the squirter that is in it after the vacuum leak was fixed. I am putting together my first motor and will no doubt be asking all these questions in about a month when I fire it up. Just trying to understand. Thanks.

Accelerator pump arm adjustment under the primary bowls. Worn throttle shaft holes in base plate of carb. Both of these were my problems on my 600.

Due to my setup, (four speed manual), 1000 rpms is the minimum mine will idle well but car shakes a lot due to lumpy idle. My best idle is 1200 rpms, no shaking at idle.

We both in the same place.
Always question that what you don't agree with or understand.
I was just responding to him,
"I am experiencing a slight hesitation when i floor it from a dead stop" this is what helped with my 600vs holley. Going up a size in the nozzle made that go away.
As for the hose that had a vacuum leaked, I'm guessing it was a PCV hose.
