Just put a remanufactured 2V carb on our '66 coupe. Fired right up no problems.

But, the idle is through the roof. Revs way to high like it's almost at full throtle. The fast idle screw isn't even touching the stop. I quit playing with it due to rain.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you've got massive air infiltration. check to make sure the base gaskets match to your spacer plate and the underside of the carb. Also look at the large pcv hose connection.

I think I may know what the problem is now that I have had some time to think about it. Great input fellows. If what I think is wrong doesn't correct the problem, I know where to continue looking. Thanks guys.

My turn to guess, the pivot ball for your linkage was in the wrong hole.

One of the kids in our club put a Holley on his 71 Mach 351 with cable linkage, it wouldn't idle down. The cable was fully extended. I fixed it in about 10 minutes. Now he thinks I'm a God

Well, I found the vaccum line from the base of the carb to the distributor has pulled out of it's threaded end. Called NPD and placed an order.

New Distributor to carb base vaccum line.
New carb mounting studs and nuts.
New gaskets.

Had some difficulty placing the carb on the old studs. So I will start over by replacing the studs, gaskets, and the vaccum line for the distributor. We shall see what happens after that.

Hey Dave,
You might have more than one problem then, the vac line to the distributor should not have full vac at idle, it should oome on as you accelerate.

In addition to fixing that line, double check your fast-idle choke settings like alex said.
