Up until about a week ago, I was running Firestone Firehawk 225 60 on 14' Keystone mags. I'm pretty sure they are 6' wide. Might be 7. Anyway, I made seven (no exageration) trips to Firestone stores from Seattle to Los Angeles over the past two years. The tires would develop "bubbles" on the sidewalls. The bubbles would always develop under the letters and would be about the size of a golfball sliced in half. The bead around the rim would kind of pull out a little also. I had one blowout on a rear tire (luckily) on the highway. Every other time I've caught them and had to replace the tire. The Firestone dealers blame the mags and refuse to pick up the bill. Has anybody ever had this problems? Last week I finally put on some Good Years with original American Racing mags which I'm happier with.------------------ 73' conv. 351C 2v mild cam, exhaust, fmx

A friend of mine has them on 15" wheels with no problem, but they are NOT on a Mustang. I haven't trusted Firestone since they had that rash of blowouts.------------------ William 68 Coupe "Restomod in Progress"

I used to work in the tire industry. If I understand what you are saying you are talking about sidewall seperation. If your tires are not getting slashed from your fenders, springs etc, and your car can be aligned and rims balanced then the problem is the tires and not the rims. They are feeding you bull.I would not go back to them and would even consider contacting the corporate office. Firestone has had some serious problems with there product recently. Check out a few of the other tire shops in the area and get a few more opinions. You may decide to spend your money else ware. No problem hardhat, we are all seeking the same thing here, answers. Go Goodyear or BF Goodrich, and let Firestone get there's from someone else.------------------ William 68 Coupe "Restomod in Progress"

Thank you for the advice, I think I will contact the head offices again. I'll let you know what I hear. The Firestones have been retired.

Sounds like a tire problem to me. The only way I think Firestone could get out of warrenting out their junk would be to say your fender lips have ate up the side walls (which should be easy enough to prove or disprove) or the tire was too wide or narrow for the wheel which also should be obvoius. My three favorite "S" rated tires are BFG's Radial T/As, Dunlop's GT Qualifer, and Kelly Chargers.

I just took off some GoodYear II, 225 60's that were on 15X7 wheels, and they fit fine. 14's shouldn't have ANY problems fitting. The ONLY rub I had, was full turn to the stop, or going up an incline at an angle. 1" smaller wheels shouldn't have a problem with 225's, no wider than a 60 series.------------------ William 68 Coupe "Restomod in Progress"

Thanks for all the replys. One excuse I received from several Firestone shops was the tires were to wide for the wheels and the beads may have been broken or stretched upon installation. Basically they would place blame on the previous installer which were all qualified firestone techs. My arguement was the original Firestone (in Washington State) should not have sold me that size tire in the first place. I bought the tires a few days before I moved to Ca so I was not able to get back to that shop. I called the manager who did say he would "take care of it" if I could get the car back up there. The tires have less than 5000 miles on them since I bought them several years ago. Sorry about the "whining". You all take it easy!------------------ 73' conv. 351C 2v mild cam, exhaust, fmx
