Well, I finally got the rocker panels from my Mach I stripped and primed. The only thing holding me up is what to do with the two main pieces - the ones with the "Mach I" letters. The question is what to do with the letters. Mine are the one's that have the letters as seperate pieces (two on each side are removeable, the others are spot welded on). Mine are pretty rough, so it seems like I have a couple of choices (in order of work, lol):

1. - Break out the dremel and polish up the letters as best I can, then mask them off and paint the panel.

2. - Just paint the panels and letters all Dark Argent, like the late 70 panels were made.

Eventually I'd like to get new letters, but they are $89.95 a set and that isn't in the cards right now. Our first baby is due in a little over a month, and I've had these damn things off the car for 6 months. I've got to get the car back together soon or it'll be a good long while before I can spend much time with it. I still have to get the slats back on, and if you saw my post about the interior door panels, I've got work to do there too.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

HH

Is the chrome pitted on them? If you paint the letters you'll have to scuff up the chrome pretty well or the paint will never stick.

Used panels show up on ebay all the time, sometimes at pretty decent prices. I've even considered getting one for a wall hanging in my shop.

Yeah, the chrome is pretty bad. I guess I'll have to go the hard route and mask them off and then try polishing them.

BTW - I noticed that the latest NPD catalog offers repop rocker panel moldings. $49.99 a side. I have no idea what they look like. I actually tried to order them a few times, but they are always "temporarily out of stock".
