How much of it broke off?If its a small piece is will just lay in the bottom of the pan, and chances of getting into the rotating assembly are slim. Mike

It seems to have rusted off where it enters the block...I guess that leaves an inch or 2 in there.

That must have hurt! Was it the tube or the actual dipstick? Here?s one, can you read any thing on it like FULL or something? How did it rust down there if it?s the dipstick? You might want to drop the pan to check the inside out.

you can probably drain the oil and reach in the drain hole with a flex magnet and retrieve the broken piece.

If its still in the block, you may be able to get it out with an EZ out. Us small block guys are always getting broken off dipstick tubes stuck in timing covers (the cover is aluminum and it like to stick to the steel tube) So we use an EZ out extractor and twist it free. Once free you should be able to keep turning it and gently pull it free.If its dropped in the pan you could try draining it and using a magnet (or buy a magnetic oil pan plug). ------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm
