Hi,

I have a stroked 351w (393) that is currently EFI and residing in my 87 that I am planning to drop into a 67 FB. The question is: Should I stay EFI or go to a carb?

Clearly each has its advantages both in instalation/modification of the car/motor as well as end result. I really like the simplicity of the carb route but at the same time I have more experience with EFI...

What are your thoughts? What would you do given the choice?

Thanks

I like the "Old School" style, so carb is my vote. But like you said, they both have positives. Tough choice.

Keep up with modern tech if you already own it and you are familiar enough with it for the swap to work. When I look at these high compression completely streetable new cars I get a little envious.

I think that I could make the swap work... Anyone on this board done this swap before? I wouldn't mind a reality check to make sure I am not overlooking any major components...

I swapped Mustang SEFI onto the 5.0 Stang engine I have in my 1967 F100. I used a wiring harness from a junkyard T-Bird that had an "E" VIN code for the engine. It's also SEFI and I had to add the MAF wires into the harness. I couldn't see paying $500 for a bunch of wires when I can read a wiring diagram! Cost me $15 at U-Wrench-It! I used a Mustang A9L PCM. Works awesome!

I was thinking of the same thing. What intake and cam do you have in the 393 now?

I?d like to see the results when you are done and here about any snags! I would imagine that it wouldn?t be any more difficult than an EFI 5.0 swap and I?ve read plenty about those.

I'd go efi, more drivability, better idle, better economy, easier starting, lower emissions, more torque and depending on the system laptop tunability. I have a 67 must vert with a 351w, I ran a couple different holley projection systems, analog and digital and compared to a carb there was no comparison, the efi had better throttle response, fuel economy and made the cam idle smoother.

I am building a 408 for my stang and plan on going port efi.

this is the latest hot setup

it will fit under stock hoods and use a maf stock ford style system.
