Thats a loaded question for sure, depends on a ton of factors a few of them are;1 How much body work 2 What type of car 3 What type of paint 4 The amount of detail work(not graphics ,but door jambs, cowls, underhood and trunk) 5 Graphics 6 The experience of the painter(is he known for his work) I have a fella near me who does a top notch paint job.Everything is done right and his prices START at 5,000.I will be placeing my baby,my 69 R code in his experience hands in the next 2 weeks and it will run between 5k and 10k depends on what he finds when he strips it to "bare metal" P.S. My next door neighbor will do a pretty good job also for between 1500 and 2000 ,but nothing near the first guys quality. Hope this helps.

Yeah there is a place around here that will paint any car for 500 bucks, but I wouldnt let them paint my lawnmower. The local mustang shop will "paint", no body work , just paint your car for at least 2,000.

I know to the penny how much I just spent having my car stripped to bare metal, new driver's front pan welded in, new passenger's side door, 4 coats of primer with wet sanding between each, 3 coats of base coat, 3 coats of clear coat, all new exterior trim, all new emblems, all new interior components, and a few extra items I didn't have before. It was a BIG pile of cash. Thousands of dollars. And that was a friend and his cousin doing the work so I saved a pile of cash in the process. About the best thing I can tell you is to get a couple of quotes from some of your local shops and add a grand to it. When your dealing with cars this old you're going to run into unexpected problems so be prepared to pay and be prepared to be p a t i e n t.... What started out as a 2 week job has turned into 3 months in my case. Can't complain though. There's always something you kind of expected but hoped wasn't going to be there when you take the paint off. How's that for a useless answer? I did all the rough bodywork, ie welded in new metal, had it stripped to bare metal, all chrome off. $7,000.00 6 coats of primer, block sanded between each, 4 coats of Red Fire Clearcoat, Gold Striped, then 4 coats of clear, color sanded and buffed - PERFECT JOB. The painter did it on the side in his garage, took all winter. Others qouted it at $8K to 10K. You get what you pay for.------------------ Have a Wonderful Day Red Fire Clearcoat 65 Fastback, 408W [email protected] http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/ekbeanctr.html

"You get what you pay for" is exactly right.

All my metal was new . Also welded on new quaters. My painter still took down to bare metal. And also shaved the doors and trunk and cowl vents. Then painted with dupont purefire color shifting paint.10'000 easy. It's what you want that counts.
