Im trying to sort out some things and the more I look the more I confuse myself. My fastback is a GT and it should have stiffer rated springs than a regular fastback. I looked up some things and found for 68 Mustangs with standard springs, PS and a 4-spd that the normal load of the springs in pounds is 1790. The same car wit the Improved Handling option has a normal load of 1760 ponds. The same car with Heavy Duty Springs would have a normal load of 1740 ponds. All of the springs listed above have different free lengths, coil amounts and wire diameters so its kind of tough to compare. ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

By the way I have newer springs up front but I think the car sits too high. They were for a GT car with a 390, PS and AC that I never installed. I dont remember which trans I told them but I also put an aluminum intake on and mounted the battery in the trunk so there is less weight up front.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 12-26-2004).]

Not sure what the question is Ed, but NPD has the exact replica springs for your car for $179.00 plus 30 to ship. They even got them to drop the rear an inch . Same company, same price. Eaton is the name of the co, and they say to call NPD for help. Mich office is toll free, 1-800-521-6104. open 24/7. On the front springs, they will settle some, but I don't know how much.------------------ William I'm too busy workin', to get rich. 68 Coupe Stock 289 Edelbrock 600/RPM Intake Ignitor/Flamethrower Thorley's with Cherry Bomb's C4 2.79's out back(for now) 15"x7" AR ASTRO's(needin' new tires) "Project Under Construction" [This message has been edited by 68 Coop (edited 12-21-2004).]

I can extarct a question from all this quote: My fastback is a GT and it should have stiffer rated springs than a regular fastback.
My GT has a 302. Should that have stiffer springs too? I would have thought the stiffer springs related to the fact you have a 390, not the fact it's a GT. Is that not so?

Trying to find out the difference between Improved Handling, Heavy Duty Suspension, and Competition Handling suspension options for a 68. I think the competition handling option was deleted in 67 but the 1975 MPC has parts listed for it.PP. 56-7 in their catalog shows 5310-7 for 68s with 390s and any body style and transmission wo/AC. 5310-7 for automatic coupes and fastbacks with any trans w/AC. 5310-9 for manual trans coups and conv. with any trans w/AC. All for $41-$48 a pair. They don't have any listed for heavy duty or GT or improved handling. I thought the nose would settle down a bit over time but its been about 16 years now. ------------------ Ed S.

The GT is suppose to have heavier springs than the regular production Mustang.
And yes my cars springs would be stiffer than yours because of the engine. ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

Ed if your looking at "orginal" FoMoCo Books for years 1967 and 1968 keep in mind that during this time frame of Production model change over Ford and UWA were going thur a Strike and a lot of info was reprinted from 67 to carry over to 68 and was not updated for a few months after the Strike. If the Date is earlier than mid Nov 1967 it could be a carry over of 67 info.Sam

ED, did you see what I was talking about at NPD??? They have 3 rows for different rates, and your GT was in the middle row. Not stock, but not the stiffest either.------------------ William I'm too busy workin', to get rich. 68 Coupe Stock 289 Edelbrock 600/RPM Intake Ignitor/Flamethrower Thorley's with Cherry Bomb's C4 2.79's out back(for now) 15"x7" AR ASTRO's(needin' new tires) "Project Under Construction"

What page were you looking at? Is this the front coils? I'm happy with the rear springs that I picked up at a spring shop. Maybe I should check them out if they are still there. ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 12-26-2004).]

Sorry Ed, when I saw "spring", I took it for granted it was leaf. I was looking at those, but the Coil springs are in that section too. I think they were around page 85 or so, but I will see what they list tonite when I get to work.------------------ William I'm too busy workin', to get rich. 68 Coupe Stock 289 Edelbrock 600/RPM Intake Ignitor/Flamethrower Thorley's with Cherry Bomb's C4 2.79's out back(for now) 15"x7" AR ASTRO's(needin' new tires) "Project Under Construction"

OK, I should follow Alex's #2 quote. Anyway, you are TOTALLY correct about the table, but if you look at the #'s, they list everything with a 5310. The kicker is the # on the very end. It lists your car with a 5310-8, but if you look on the other column at the 351's, they list a 5310-10. OK, is the dash # the stiffness rate, and if so, could'nt you use those 10's for your car??? Just tring to help, and learn something in the process .------------------ William I'm too busy workin', to get rich. 68 Coupe Stock 289 Edelbrock 600/RPM Intake Ignitor/Flamethrower Thorley's with Cherry Bomb's C4 2.79's out back(for now) 15"x7" AR ASTRO's(needin' new tires) "Project Under Construction"

I have the 04 catalog, and I found the -10's on the side with the newer cars. I think they were in the 70/71 351 column.

I don't know Ed, but it seems everybody favors the 620 spring. [This message has been edited by 68 Coop (edited 12-27-2004).]

620# springs are very stiff for street use, it will take 620 lbs to compress the coil spring 1".
