Hey GuysMy wife and I are going to re cover the seats in the 66 stang coupe.. I am going to get the front bucket foam from Johns Mustang in Houston. My question is this: They dont have rear bench seat foam... does this exist, and if not, does anyone have any tips/tricks for how to fabricate some new rear seat foam.

The only tip I can offer is to use an electric knife like you'd use to carve a turkey. Then go to a good fabric store they will many grades and sizes of foam.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe the rear seat contains any foam... Like I said I may be wrong, p.o.'s can do a lot of funny things over a 40 year span. On my rear seat ('65 coupe, February San Jose build), rear seat consists of the springs/framework whatever you want to call it, covered in burlap, then some cottonish type padding material. No foam "pre-shaped" buns like up front. Maybe all are the same?
If this is the case, then you could buy both materials (burlap and cotton padding) at about any Home Depot or probably a craft store (if you can stand to go in one ) Good luck, post back with what you find under your rear seat (foam or no) or what you decide to do...

My 69 has a bun in the rear seat. Sounds like someone has replaced your foam with batting.

If your buns are still intact, you can skip getting a new bun and just add 1/2 inch foam to the bolster areas of your existing buns. This will give a nice shape to the seats. I bought new buns (the good ones, not 'economy grade') for my seats but the upholstery shop still had to add foam to get the shape I wanted. Could have saved $120 bucks on the buns....

I believe you are right....at least that's the way it is on 65-66 coupes and verts...maybe the fastback is different. Maybe this article can help: http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/33558/ Alex

I pulled the rear seats out this evening to see what we were dealing with..I havent yet taken the hog rings out because I want to photograph , so I can put the new ones back correctly. Anyways, looking at the underside of the seat and seatback, it's how 65ponycar described it. Some old nasty brown burlap looking material, and what I would term as batting (cotton like stuffing). Ill get 'em apart and see if thats all there is. The wife loves stuff like this and said whatever it needs to be replaced, she can get it back to the way it's supposed to be.After pulling the seats, I noticed I need to maybe sand?? and POR?? the floor under the seat??..some slight surface rust on the floor, but no flaking or holes.

Thanks WilliamI was somewhat relieved I guess when I pulled the rear seat out. I know I need to replace the front pans, they are pretty bad. I'll get the back floor nice and clean and treat it with the POR and go from there
