In 65.. preferrably around July... How many brackets were there to hold the A/C compressor on a V8? For some reason I think somewhere along the line they added an extra one in 66? To keep belt slap down or something??? I'm not quite sure exactly.
Heres the three I've found:

The added part on the 66 is a three mounting hole extra idler pulley that mounts below and toward the center a bit from the compressor. It's sole function was to act as a tensioner to minimize belt slap. The oiginal AC system has two brackets that anchor the compressor, not counting the tubular bracket that runs to the intake. If you use a Sanden with the OEM setup, the dogleg pulley can be eliminated. An adaptor mount on the factoy compressor mount must be used to adapt the Sanden.

The bracket that mounts from the intake to the top of the pump is often missing in 1965-1966 cars (at least by pictures)--it won't fit tall valve covers and some aftermarket manifold/carb combos. I'm not sure what function it fills except for stability.

Just for comparison, in my 1966, I have a dealer-installed 1965 system (installed when car was new) with a York compressor. I have an idler pulley bracket assemby that fits above the alternator, another that the compressor mounts on, and the upper tubular bracket. The tubular one won't fit because of tall valve covers, so I'm looking around for options. I have 1.7 roller rockers, so I have limited choices. I don't have power steering, so this may affect what brackets are used.

If you are still running a York or Tecumseh compressor, the Sanden rotary will free up some power robbing HP that the former wastes. Also, there is no need for that compressor to intake rod that DID act as a stabilizer for the vibrating York. Even when those cars were new, had both a 66 and 67, you could feel the engine idle noticeably slow down when AC was turned and feel the vibration. Ford hung on to those Dorks for too long a time. Remember a neighbor getting a new 75 Granada that came with a GM rotary compressor. What an improvement.
