I'm looking at upgrading/replacing a/c system stuff in my '65, and came across a bunch of hype stuff on the web about Enviro-Safe refrigerant. Among its claimed marvels is that its: colder than R-12, safer than R-134, cheaper than either, compatable with any oil - basically that it's the bomb. Is anyone out there using this stuff? In a York compressor? In a Sanden? Thanks in advance.

In my Mustang I went R134A. At speed its as cold as any AC I have ever owned. At idle it lacks just a little.

In my Toro I "converted" from R12 to 134A by replacing a bunch of bushings with one of my buddies who knew what he was doing. Initially we had a leak but a bunch of leak tracing sealer fixed the problem for two years.

Last rumor I heard said the $1,000 134A conversion kits sold a few years back were not necessary and either mechanics (or more likely) parts manufacturers were selling pointless parts or were clueless about the freon differences.

All times are ET (US)
