Ive used Duponts Centari acrylic enamel in the past with results that Ive been happy with but I wanted to see what my other options could be. Painting will be done buy me or my Dad in the garage with the regular type of spray system or the HVLP system he has. So what have you guys used and what comments do you have about the product you used?

If color matters I'm thinking of Grabber Orange!

Dupont base clear I don't know the name of the specific (brand name) can't beat the durability though. I can probably get you the specifics from my body man as I have to go and pick up a trapdoor he just finished for me. Give me an email or call. i think you have my Jersey number.

I used PPG Base Coate & Clear Coate.. Looks nice but I think the Clear Coate Scratches and SpiderWebs tooooo easily..

A partner of mine that owns a Resto Business,, told me they quit using ppg because it caused shrinkage of materials,, such as bondo under the paint..

I just sprayed my friends 86 Mustang today with Daiblo Red Limco Acrylic enamel with Mar-Hyde wet look hardener (4 coats) and after final coat tacked up almost dry sprayed 3 coats of Limco Clear coat with catalyst and it really Looks GREAT.
The clear makes a remarkable difference in gloss and durability.
Just make sure whatever brand acrylic enamel you use that you get a compatible clear coat from your paint supplier.
Good luck on your paint job.

Everyone will have a different preference, I'm partial to PPG Base/Clear/Primer/Surfacer/Sealer. Just stay with one system where all layers are compatable with each other. I shot my coupe ten years ago, and its still holding up good.

Mike..

I am almost positive we did NOT use a sealer when we last painted 6T6.. This is the 2nd time in 2 days I have heard about using a sealer..

It's applied over the Primer ??

Ed..

It's PPG Acrylic Enamel.. The Product we used was:
DELTRON 2000 - DBC Basecoat
DELTRON 2000 - DBC 500 Color Blender
& DT 870 Reducer..

Color Code: DBC 5112 K (Royal Blue Metallic)
It is a stock FORD Color -very important if you need to match it..
And the Harlequin Red/Blue on the ghost flames was the PPG reduced 30 to 1.. (you can't match it)..

I thought I had the Clear Coate Info,, but can't find it right now.. I just know it was suppose their latest and greatest..

I still don't think it is Hard or Tough Enough,, but that could be my painters fault.. I know that he has inhaled way too much Acetone over the years..

Actually,, I am looking into some of the new Water Based Base Coats.. Createx makes a good product.. There was a great article on painting the Checker/Schucks Funny Car with Createx.. You can put any clear coate right over it,, and it doesn't need primer either..

Don,
The sealer is applied over the sandable prime to keep the color form bleeding through. All kinds of varieties of sealers available. I used the old DP Epoxy primer reduced down, so what I have on the car is in this order: bare metal, DP Epoxy Primer, Sandable Primer, Sealer (DP reduced), base coat, and Clear on top. What bondo I used was on top of the DP Primer but under the Sandable. Clear as mud.....

I used DuPonts FillN Sand, Velvaseal acrylic sealer (I think as its been a while) and then Centari. Since Ive only used the acrylic enamel what Im trying to find out is if other paints like an acrylic urethane might go down as easy or look better? The acrylic urethane sounds nicer
