Well, had to do Permatex on the t-stat housing, could not get it to stop dripping. It's a chrome one, so I'm thinking never again. Anti-freeze is eating the chrome off of it already. Anyway, the question I posted was just too silly, so I erased it. Sorry to waste your time. Don't throw your old thermostat housing away, you may want it soon. Chome housings are a PITA.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Thanks Steve, right now I still have everything that I have changed out, just in case. You are right about those chrome ones tho, a real PITA. man does this post hit home, spent about 6-7 hours trying to stop leaks with the chrome one, about 20 minutes to re-setup the original type one and it was dry! - go figure!

Yeah, I just drove it for the first time since I did the Permatex, and I think the by-pass hose is leaking now. If it ain't one thing, it's another. You guys aren't the only ones that have leaking chrome housings. Putting the origional back on sounds like a good idea.

It's amazing what an 89 cent gasket, and the original houseing will do for leaks. I got to be honest about this though, I really thought the intake was leaking at the front gasket. No leaks as far as I can tell, but those drop lights make some crazy shadows, so I'll know for sure when it gets light. Anyway, just wanted to pass along the good news, and thank everyone again who took the time to respond. Ditto. The Chrome plating must do something negative to the gaskets!I'm going to paint the top of my old one before I put it back on.

I hit mine with the darkgray primer, turned out OK. Getting ready to swap the valve covers back to to orig. and get rid of the Auto Zone Chrome. Put a nice coat of Ford blue on them, gonna look good with that new intake and carb. The chrome houseing is in perfect shape, just don't think you can get them tight enough. Anyway, readjusted the timing, gonna check some plugs and change these covers. Running good, now to get it looking good. Thanks for the reply. I think the chrome surface is too smooth to seal effectively and it makes it too easy for liquids to seep past. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Maybe some day when I'm bored, and want to get anti-freeze all over my shoes, I'll try it again. NOT! Thanks guys, appreciate all the time and replies. William
