Hello folks, I am putting together all the stuff I need for a 289 to 351W swap in a '65 and I'm having trouble finding the correct diameter (6 3/4" +/-) 3 groove, 4 hole crank pulley. More of the 4 holers I've come across are 8" diameter. 3 grooves are also proving tough to locate. I think I read awhile back where someone merely drilled a 3 hole pulley to the correct 4 hole configuration and used it. Has anyone found a source for the correct pulleys, or has an opinion on how safe it is to re-drill the 3 hole pulley? I'm too cheap to go with March pulleys, and I'm trying to avoid the needle in a haystack approach at the boneyard. I'm not worried about the backspace since I have the correct spacer already to work with the 351W damper/crank. Thanks for any comments.

I did, and it ran many years without a problem. I'd do it again in a second. In fact, now that I think about it since I took the power steering setup off my Mach 1, I'll be dragging that pulley out and using it again. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Thanks Steve!! This advice helps a bunch. I know all my other 289 stuff will work, and I've bought the correct (lower) ac bracket from a '69/'70 vintage 351W - so with that I should be good to go.
