Hello again...I have a customer with a 1967 mustang vert...that has a 351w in it, manual drum brakes, manual steering. He wants me to install power steering on this car, but he has only a few parts of the swap needed. Question: I don't know yet if it has the early or late steering column in it, but if I get lucky, and it is the late column with the break in it, what else fits in its' place, other than mustang steering equipment? Cougar? Fairlane? Torino? My biggest concern at the moment is the steering box. It has the manual box, and I will need the power unit with the quicker ratio. Does anyone here, close to me (pacific northwest) have any mustang steering parts? I already have the draglink and ram, but if I could find a complete setup.... Anyway, thanks for any replies...

The tie-rod ends will be the same for manual or power. You already have the drag link, which I assume includes the control valve on the end. You already have the power ram. What you need now is a frame bracket to attach the ram, plus a pump with brackets and pulleys. Add the four hoses and fluid and you could call it done. You don't need to change the steering column, they are the same. Check the steering gearbox, it has a tag on top of it with a number like "hccw". Manual cars could have had 16:1 or 19:1 ratio. All power steering cars had 16:1 ratio. If you use the 19:1 ratio with power it will be real touchy going down the road. It is possible to do, but it feels weird. Scott

Sorry, my brain is still on vacation!A Cougar steering box will work for you! Is the control valve on the center link? If not you can use the 67-70 Mustang and Cougar ones I think. ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 08-04-2004).]

67 mustang used a 1/4" pressure line fitting, 68 and up used a 5/16 line.

The steering column rod is permanently attached to the steering box, like the 65-66 cars...this is an early 1967 build...late 1967 cars got the split collapsing shaft with isolator. This has the 19:1 box...4 3/4 turns l-lAnyway, I need the 16:1 steering box, as I have installed P/S on a couple of newer stangs with manual boxes...the cars had zero road feel, too easy to steer. If anyone is local....or has extra parts...I might have him buy the complete setup, just to keep it matched.
