Have any of you guys installed the Pro-Motorsports shock tower stiffening kit? This kit is a set of gussets like the Boss 302 has..... How much time did it take to install?

I've intalled the kit as a shock tower repair instead of replacing a rusted shock tower. It worked very well, the pieces are cut nice. I didn't keep track of how much time, and it will depend on how far apart your car is disassembled. No front sheet metal, no engine, no upper control arms will make it much easier to do. If you have all that out of the way I would think you could weld it in taking your time at about a couple hours per side. If all that stuff is in the way it will hinder your ability to fit the pieces to your car and will make welding and cleanup tough.

Will do. Mine is all torn down as Whiteknight described above, so I don't think it will take very long. But all projects start out looking like that. I'll have to spend some time fixing a previous mechanic's shock tower repair. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Hey Steve, How's the installation going? What welder are you using?

I haven't been able to get to it yet. We'll be using my Lincoln AC-100 arc welder and 3/32" stainless steel welding rods.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Pro Motorsports has pics of their kit: https://www.pro-motorsports.com/store/product.asp?id=18...and a reprint of the story about it that was in Mustang Monthly {I think Oct. '93}: http://www.pro-motorsports.com/art-crackedshocktower.asp I should be doing the installation on Monday. A friend of mine that welds for a living will be helping me with it so it may even turn out looking halfway decent. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Done! It wasn't too bad to install. We had to fix other problems, like repair/remove welds a previous owner had inflicted on it, and we ran out of wire right in the middle of the job, so it took us a day in total. A straight installation would probably be 4-5 hours, assuming you have it torn down and ready to weld. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip [This message has been edited by SteveLaRiviere (edited 07-08-2004).]

Steve, Way cool! Nice job, good looking welds with nice penetration. You gotta teach me how to insert pictures...I just started my webpage this morning. Did you use a export brace or monte carlo bar to hold the towers in place while you're welding? ------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather

No, I thought about it. After. But everything fits fine.To insert pics, first your web site must allow linking, most free sites don't, then you just put a after the address of the picture. All the credit for the welding goes to my Chevy buddy Tony. He's a really good welder and was nice enough to do it for me. I didn't want to take a chance on my welding skills for this. My brother Mike did some of the fitment and I stood around barking orders like Paul Tuteul Sr. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
