I'm going to remove my black vinyl top on my 67 coupe so I can get the whole car primered. I was wondering if anybody has any tips on doing this? Is there a certain way I need to reomve the top? What kind of adhesive remover should I use? What holes need to be filled in the body? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

It would be easiest to do it outside in the sunshine where the vinyl is warm and easier to manipulate, but you can do it inside, too. I just started to pull it up from one end to remove it and used a scraper (like one you use to remove paint or vinyl flooring) and scraped under the top as I pulled it up. You could also just scrape away with a paint scraper, but be careful not to scratch the top. If you are going to replace the top, you will need to remove the windshield and backlite and perhaps (if the top is original) the riveted metal strip in the drip rail.
The glue residue is a pain to get off for paint prep, but 3M (and others) sell various adhesive removers that help. Just clean really well and sand lightly before priming. The glue tends to ball up and is a pain to get rid of.
If you aren't going to replace the vinyl top, there will be three holes on each side at the base of the sail panel to fill, or you could just put back on the molding.
Hope this helps.

There really isn?t a good way to get that adhesive off! I tried a few products and winded up just sanding the stuff off.

I guess I was lucky on mine, it just peeled off like a dead skin. The only place left is around the chrome on the front and back, and the post. It's on there GOOD.
