I have been having problems with my charging system on my 66. My gauge shows to be charging 10 amps. I take my car to ORiellys and they put a scanner on my car and it says my battery and alternator is bad. I bought the items there so they replace them free and ask me if I want to upgrade my alternator for 10.00 so I say yes. I go home and put them on and it still shows charging 10 amps. So I think it has to be voltage regulator. I go to ORiellys to buy a volt. regulator and the guy says I cant use the 20.00 regulator that I had with the 70 amp alternator. I have to buy the 50.00 voltage regulator to keep up with the more amps my new alternator is putting out. Is this ture?I have heard that you can use a solid state voltage regulator from a 70`s ford car.Is this ture? Thanks,Tony

I am not sure about the voltage regulator being different for the extra amps, but I can vote for the solid state regulator. I was having the slight light flickering in the car dome lights till I changed it out and it has been working great. One thing I have noticed is that all my parts catalogs only call out for one regulator with no amps mentioned ------------------ 69 393W Sportsroof Deluxe [This message has been edited by Clark (edited 05-10-2004).]
