I've got a '71 302 in my '65 fastback, and it had 351 heads on it. I bent a rod, it tore up a valve and spring. All of the valves had tons of buildup on them. Basically rebuilding the heads is beyond my financial ability at this point, so a friend gave me a rebuilt set of '66 289 heads as a swap. From what I'm hearing, 289 heads will give me higher compression. Are the any other advantages/disadvantages to these 289 heads?

The valves and stuff are they same, go for it, this is a pretty popular swap.

It's done...and the difference is amazing. Before the swap, I thought I had a huge cam in it, because the motor would lope. Turns out it was stuck valves and buildup, and it was only firing on seven cylinders. I haven't seen what it can do yet, because I still want to be cautious for a little while, but it runs so smooth.
