Rebuilt my '65 289 with all new parts and pieces. Ran well during it's 30 minute run-in with no heating problems. Soon thereafter, the engine overheated and we found all kinds of metal debris plugging the new radiator. Cleaned and flushed that but now the engine still rapidly overheats. New water pump works fine. Engine was bored to .060 by a reputable machine shop. As I tear the engine down again, what do I look for as the cause of this overheating? Should I be pessimistic or optimistic?

The radiator Might still be plugged ? I'd check that out better before tearing into the motor.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

No the radiator is clean and even with outside fans and running water, the cooling cannot keep up with the engine heat.

Did they test the wall thickness of the cylinders? I had a 60 over 289 that overheated all the time. Is the water in the radiator moving? A air bubble in the water pump could keep it from flowing or even a bad T-stat.------------------ Dustin C "The Mopar Guy!" Bad news is the block is cracked. Got lots invested in new heads, manifold, pumps, etc. Where would you suggest I go for a new block to start over? Long block, short block, crate, what? I'm licking my wounds over this but want to drive my car without a huge further investment.

Zippy, I'm sorry for your misfortune. There is a mechanic in Rockville, MD accross from where I work that has a shortblock for $150. Are you anywhere in Maryland? Charlie

Charlie, thanks but I'm in Southern California where everyone is tall and their blocks don't crack or they own junkyards and just say oh well.
