I have 2 trans one form 6 cyl another from 8 cyc. The tags number are as follows: 6 cyl PEB B X 7E18C8 CYC PEJ B3 D22PABL12 I need to have one of them rebuilt to put behind my 302, the 6 cycl trans is the original one out of my 66 mustang which I am converting to v-8. It has the floorshift linkage and the other doesnt look the same at the linkage but everything else on outside look identical. I heard the c4 behind 6 is not as strong as others. Since I am having it rebuilt and beefed up does it matter? I would appreciate any help I need to make a decision soon so i can get this project finished. Thanks Steve

They are pretty much the same internally. Any competant trans builder can make the appropriate upgrades to the drums for greater durability.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Steve, I agree with Alex as long as you are dealing with two similar trans.MAKE SURE your trans guy has the shift lever you intend to use in the vehicle. The shift levers are different between column shift and floor shift, and can also be different for some cars to have the neutral safety switch mounted on the shift lever or mounted on the shift housing. You CAN change the lever later, but it is a minor pain in the butt as you have to remove the pan and valve body again. ------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather
