I went to pass someone the other day and really needed to get around fast and my tranny didn't kick down a gear. You can floor it and it won't drop a gear. It has 15 lbs of vacume. What next?

Your 66 should use a cable to kick-down the transmission. At the bottom of your accelerator linkage against the engine side of the firewall you should see a hole for the cale to mount to, or maybe even a rusted piece of the old cable. This connects to a small lever on the shift arm of the transmission. When the accel linkage is almost at the end of its travel the cable should tighten up and pull the little shift lever forward.

It might be a vacuum leak at the tranny. On my 70 model C-4 that was the problem. There is a vacuum port on the right(?) side by in about the middle of the tranny, you can't miss it, make sure there is a line hooked up to it. AND DON'T DRIVE IT LIKE THAT, if you can help it. That tranny will be $hit if you drive very long on it.

Not downshifting won't hurt it, just lug the engine a little and slow acceleration a bit.

Sounds like just a little linkage adjustment needed like Whiteknight stated.
