Doc,
I've had experiences with roller rockers that are as quiet as stockers and I've had some that make a definate noise, similar to a rattle but very subtle. More like a sound you might hear with solid lifters. They shouldn't clatter or make a ticking sound.

It sounds to me like an adjustment issue. What rockers are they? I have run a couple of different flavors and never really notcied noise.

My CompCams magnum roller tips have a metallic noise that hasn't gone away in several adjustments. Engine runs great with only 500 miles on it.

make sure the saddle of the roller tip is not contacting the valve retainers. Some rollers are recessed and any contact throuout the stroke of the rocker will make a clicking sound.
Also make sure the push rod is not contacting the push rod guide at the base. (closest to the rocker stud), this can happen on higher lift cams and will also make a noise.
