My brakes have become very soft. I replaced the internals of the master cylinder and it improved things, but now they're soft again. The pads are good and properly adjusted. The MC stays full, and there's no sign of leaking. But when I bleed the brakes, the fluid doesn't SQUIRT out but requires a lot of pumping to get it to dribble. On this particular car, I've never replaced the brake lines. Is it possible they are simply clogged? Thanks! Simon

The rubber hoses are known to delaminate on the inside with age. Brake lines are so cheap and so crucial I replace them at the slightest question.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

I agree on the rubber lines, they break down on the inside and create and obstruction. Other thatn that the only thing I can think of that would indicate a bad line would be a puddle on the garage floor. Improperly adjusted drum brakes can also create alot fo pedal travel and make for spongy feeling brakes. [This message has been edited by TT670 (edited 04-07-2004).]

It sounds like you may have an internal leak in the master cylinder. Try pumping up the brakes and then hold the pedal down. If the pedal drops, and there are no external leaks anywhere, the MC is bad.
