I have a 73 convetible that I want to install the factory guages in. I read the Tech article and it sounds like the easy way.I have a parts car that had the gauges in it and all of the wiring harnesses are intact. The only difference is my car is a 351C 2v with electronic spark control (ESS) and the parts car is a 302 with transmission controlled spark advance. My questions are: Is it relatively easy to swap the wiring harnesses? Will the ESS wiring become a problem? Are there plugs in the wiring harnesses for the different devices, or are the harnesses different? Don Both cars are completely disassembled at the time so access to the wiring isn't a problem.

The harnesses are different. It's easy to swap the underdash wiring harness. You should only need to remove the underdash harness from the fuse block then plug the new harness up. I dont think it will effect the engine feed wires. If you are hooking up the center gauges too you will need to swap the voltage regulator wires and fuse block that is attached to the right shock tower. Thanks for the replies. I guess my real question is about the ESC amplifier wiring. I figured that I could swap the entire harness to make the tach and center guages work. However, in doing so would I lose the wiring for the ESC module, speed sensor, etc, or are these wires in all harnesses. Both dashes are out of the cars. I was trying to avoid several hours of stare-and-compare between the two harnesses.

When I swapped my '72 over in 1980 I spliced it into the harness. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
