Good looking work Ron!

Sorry that was such a bad picture. And the car was covered with stuff. I took some better pictures I hope and sent them to Steve. I hope he can post those too.

Thanks for the nice words, you all have been a great inspiration to me. Every time I think about taking a short I think about how nice your cars are.

Alex you repaint the engine compart every year, Now thats impressive.

Ken, thats the great thing about black on black it all looks black when your done.

Steve, Yeah I was doing some work in there today took some paint off. I stopped what i was doing got the paint and touched up the spot. I've had to do that for the since I've had the car.

Bruce, can't wait to see the motor in there too.

Looks great! I was wondering if any of yall have seen a bright yellow and black paint combo. I have just started restoring my 66 coupe. I was thinking about the fire walls going the same color as the car(bright yellow) and trimming with black(shock covers, hoodhinges, hoodlatch, shipping brackets, etc) Has anyone seen this combo before. I was thinking the yellow firewall would make the engine compartment look clean. I'm new to all this and dont know alot about cars so its fun and exciting, learning and reading yall's ideas. Thanks for the thoughts...have a good day!

The paint scheme can be whatever YOU like. After all, it's your car. You will get as many nays as you would yas with that question so go with what you feel good about.

Yea that is the truth. The reason behind the question was the thoughts on lighter firewalls making cleaner looking engine areas...Im not sure thats the case...I'm going to go with it, and then I'll let yall know how it works out. thanks for the thoughts...God Bless

TXBOY11,
If you want to see how it would look, try getting some pictures of some MOPAR products. They commonly have engine compartments painted same as the outside of the car. This is definately a personal preference thing, and I'm all for doing the car the way you want it. Just be prepared for a lot of strange looks and questions when you go to the local cruise-in!

Thanks for the info about mopar, I'll check it out. Yea, I know what ya mean about the questions at the cruise-in. heck I am already questioning it...but thats what makes it fun. Everyone with thier cars and special/personal touches. I'll try it, and if it doesnt look right, I'll paint it. I have already gotten everything powdercoated gloss black that I could get off in the engine area. Time will tell....I'd like to get yall some pics to look at...maybe one day soon.. Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.....GOD BLESS

It will look clean as long as you keep it clean. Bright colors show up dirt and grime like crazy.

You'll get past that part, I did. And get plenty of strange looks and questions and even rude comments about my car.

TXBOY11, do what you want. But I agree with Steve bright colors are real hard to keep clean. Why not just add some yellow parts around the engine and area. I like every thing under the hood to be black with alittle chrome and color added in.Thats just my thing, the blcak is real easy to touch up and easy to clean too.
BTW I had a buddy that had a Yellow Cougar he paint his engine compartment yellow too. It looked good for the first few years. After that it got to dirty looking.

Keith thanks the down time is making do all those little porjects I've been putting off. Another two weeks or morr on the motor I was told today. Engine builder must have a different idea of how LONG two weeks is.

"Engine builder must have a different idea of how LONG two weeks is."

I hear you. My tranny was supposed to be 4 weeks, became 8. Engine was close started at 4 weeks, done in 6, rear end was the worst supposed to ship in 10 days and came in 9 weeks later.

Nice work on the comparment scoop. Finished painting mine last weekend. Would like to put engine tranny in this weekend but waiting on prothane engine/tranny mounts. Prothane has em on back order and were supposed to shipped to distributors last week. +1 week so far. If I don't get them next week I'm going stock motor mounts as the local performance shop has the prothane tranny mount in stock.

Thank yall for your inputs. I really enjoy hearing what experience has to say. I'm very new to working on cars, and I appreciate the sincerity/passion all of yall seem to have for the mustang(vehicles in general). I'm working on a '66 coupe that was my first car as a 15 year old. I am now 29, so its great to have this chance to learn about cars, and restore such a classic that really means something to me. Hope yall can over look some of my basic questions I may ask, and I'll say many thanks for helping me. Yall have a great Easter weekend!!

Thanks Mike, You should have seen my wifes face when she first saw the car.

I guess I don't see the progress like others do. Because I'm to focused on the next project. But thanks to Steve taking the time and space to post some pictures. It's open my eyes alittle.

I can relate Ron. My wife didn't like mine when I first showed it to her(the mustang )
But after spending literally every weekend on it in the last year, she's become quite impressed with it.

Mike so many things I could say to that

But I know what you mean. For the first time last week we were talking to some people we had just met. And my wife told them that WE have a 65 Mustang that WE are fixing up and race sometimes. Now even if I don't see WE doing the work, I was so happy to hear her say something good about the car.

I'm even more impressed now Ron, and sorry Steve.....
